Gain Time This Spring!

It’s March, which means that Spring is soon approaching! Daylight Savings Time begins next Sunday, March 14, 2021. As the snow and ice clear and the crocuses and daffodils start to emerge from the ground we begin looking forward to the longer, warmer days that are ahead. This season of newness is a great time to take a look around your home and make sure that things are ready to go after the harsh winter months. It is an especially good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Extra Time?

During Daylight Savings Time, our clocks “spring forward” an hour, giving us an extra hour of daylight in the evenings. While we don’t truly gain any more hours of sunlight than the day before when we move the clocks forward, the seasonal ritual of changing the batteries in your smoke detectors can indeed give you more time! By alerting us at the first sign of smoke, a properly functioning smoke detector will give us more time to escape a building in the event of a fire. Truly, beyond extra minutes, they can give the gift of more years by saving a life from a premature death.

Don’t forget the Carbon Monoxide Detector!

While you are changing the batteries in your smoke detectors, don’t forget about your carbon monoxide detectors! Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas and therefore, is not detectable by our human senses. Our greatest line of defense against this toxic gas is a CO detector.

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors save a life somewhere in the United States almost every single day of the year. Make this seasonal time change a reminder to change your batteries whenever you change your clocks.
